Exclusive Trivia!!
-
The cover illustration for the 'enter the dust collectors!' EP was inspired by a good handful of little indie bands I've found on YouTube, some examples being "Charmless Harm" by Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and especially the dull colours of Tinyfolk's "Little Mice And Other Things That Go Skitter Skitter". Also the cover illustration is generally inspired by the minimalist approach of a lot of Shibuya-Kei album covers.
The name came for the album was originally just Enter The Dust Collectors!, though I switched it to 'enter the dust collectors!' EP because Super Magnificent Action Trio did a similar thing for their "cuddle-core" EP.

The name "Dust Collectors" was pretty obvious to me from the very beginning; Button and Pinhead came alive from being ceramic figurines, which as we all know, do nothing but sit on shelves and collect dust. I own a small collection of these types of figurines, mostly depicting humans or animal creatures carrying out daily tasks or playing. Button and Pinhead were both named after small, sewing-related things, because I thought it was cute!
Button's design and name was inspired by the Sanrio character "Button-Nose", thought Pinhead's design was not really inspired by anything, just the idea of him being a literal "dust bunny".
The idea for Button and Pinhead getting rid of the dust in the room where their human lives actually came from something that happens to me in real life! I experience really terrible hayfever symptoms that are even worse when I'm sitting in my room (because I guess it's pretty dusty) so the idea of a pair of ceramic figurines brought to life at night whose singular goal is to get rid of all of the dust, because they're concerned about the health of the human, seemed super adorable to me!

Okay, onto the music!
"Tabby Cat In A Strawberry Hat" was heavily inspired by Serani Poji's earlier work, very minimalist with a few samples, y'know. Uses what I think is a Roland Samba beat sample in the background the entire time. The "meow" sample is something that has been a part of my life for a long while--I used it as a ringtone on my IPhone a year or two ago, inspired by the girl from Girls Und Panzer who did a similar thing. I think the sample was from YouTube somewhere, you'd probably be able to find it if you searced for it.
I just wanted this song to be calm and slow-paced, and I think I acheived that!

The simple piano melody in "Theme Of Pinhead" was inspired by the Melting Holidays song "Ladybug", I think? This song was overall pretty inspired by Melting Holidays, and I leaned into that with the brass instruments. I don't know, I think it's nice.

I started working on "Pasta Primavera" in the hopes I could use the sample of the guys saying "pasta primavera" in it, and it turned out pretty well, I think! This sample is, of course, from the "Red Devil Grill" infomercial. I think it's a really funny infomercial, almost entirely on YouTube, too, so you should watch it sometime.
For the song itself, I never really intended for it to be a good song, but I think I tried a lot of cool stuff with it, and I like it a lot!

The theremin sound in "Theme Of Button" was inspired by the song "Saki Nai Teta No Wa Dareda?" by MeMe. Not a real theremin, I must say, but it sounds kinda similar. It was the first song I did for the album and I wanted to try out some new stuff with it. I use a lot of Ultrabox idiophone presets as opposed to the almost entirely chip-wave stuff I did last time, making all sorts of layered nonsense. I think it's fine, definitely not my best work, but it's okay.

I am very proud of "Delicate Frequency". The name comes from the radio sample I used at the beginning and end of the song, of course. I think it's cute, and I managed to make a lot of cool sounds with it. This was the song where I was finally getting more comfortable using samples and stuff, and I think it's really cool sounding, pretty different to other stuff I've made.

"Not From Our Planet" was a song I wrote a while back, out of a need for more lesbian love songs about weird girls! It's dumb, and the lyrics are bad, but I think it's also pretty cute. I loved bitcrushing and distorting my vocals to hell and back, too.
The instrumental is really repetitive, and the specific take of the vocals I used wasn't the best, but I think that's okay! It's fun to make bad art.
